Teacher's interaction with parents and community
Guiding Principle Five

5.1 Communicate with parents to stimulate their interest in their children's progress
The image attached to the side captures a fruitful dialogue between a parent and child and teachers.
5.2 Engages community members to build trust, to foster open communication and to work collaboratively with parents to benefit students’ achievement levels
Involved/participated in community activities/projects, e.g. national celebrations.
The pictures below showcase various community-based activities and national celebrations I have participated in.
The image showcases students engaged in the school STEM Expo, where they presented an experiment focused on the properties of lenses and the images produced by them. This project was conducted by grade 11 (fifth form) students and was selected due to its relevance to the CSEC Physics syllabus currently being studied. The presentation highlighted the students’ understanding and application of key scientific principles.

Heritage Day Celebrations

5.3 Engages parents and community in promoting values and attitudes that are consistent with national educational goals
This is an image of the Fruit and Water Day initiative to encourage healthy eating. This initiative used healthy eating habits as a means to improve cognitive function, thus leading to better-quality education.
Other Activities Involving Parents
Strategy to motivate parents to participate .
As a way to express my gratitude to the parents' representatives of my form class who have worked tirelessly to convey information and concerns from their fellow parents to me, I initially thought of sending parents thank you cards because I wanted the young ladies in my charge to develop the habit of saying thank you. Honestly, I never considered this gesture from this perspective. After receiving the cards, they continued their excellent work.
Reflection
This guiding principle highlights the essential role of collaboration between teachers and parents in improving student learning outcomes.
During the recent parents' consultation day, I was encouraged by the valuable insights parents offered regarding their children's learning styles. Many parents shared their observations of their children's habits and provided helpful context about their learning challenges, which can inform our approach.
To further strengthen our partnership with parents, we could focus on enhancing and maintaining consistent communication. Utilizing official channels, such as email, instead of informal platforms like WhatsApp would help ensure that important information is communicated effectively and professionally. This shift could foster a more structured dialogue and ultimately benefit our students’ learning experiences.
